Dr Shan Balachandran is a consultant endocrinologist with comprehensive experience investigating and managing all endocrine conditions.
Shan completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University in 2013. He later undertook endocrinology specialist training at Box Hill Hospital and The Alfred Hospital, recognised with a Fellowship of the Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in 2021. He was further awarded a PhD through Monash University in 2025 for his research focused on advancing treatments for thyroid cancer.
Shan has broad clinical expertise which allows him to optimise patient care in wider aspects of endocrinology, such as Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, Endocrine hypertension, Osteoporosis, Adrenal disease and Pituitary disorders. Shan also has particular subspecialty interest in thyroid disease, including thyroid nodules and cancer.
Shan consults privately in Box Hill on Wednesdays and Fridays. He also has a public appointment at Eastern Health where he practises in the thyroid, general endocrinology and diabetes clinics.
Shan is a member of the Endocrine Society of Australia, US Endocrine Society, American Thyroid Association, and Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association.
